VU[E]S DE DOS

The exhibition “Vu[e]s de dos, une figure sans portrait ” explores the representation of the back in art, which became a subject in its own right as early as the 17th century. Through a chronological and thematic journey, it shows how this motif opened up new forms of storytelling, from everyday life to mythology, and from social contexts to intimacy, extending into contemporary art.The exhibition design plays on the idea of rupture and distortion: a central partition wall cuts across the cloister space, creating new perspectives, while mirrors and rotations encourage visitors to shift their viewpoint. More than a display of artworks, it is an experience in learning to “see differently,” questioning front and back, visible and hidden, the portrait and its absence.

L’exposition « Vu[e]s de dos, une figure sans portrait » explore la représentation du dos dans l’art, devenue un sujet à part entière dès le XVIIᵉ siècle. À travers un parcours chrono-thématique, elle montre comment ce motif a ouvert de nouvelles formes de narration, du quotidien aux mythes, du social à l’intime, jusqu’à l’art contemporain.

La scénographie joue sur la notion de rupture et de torsion : une cimaise centrale traverse l’espace du cloître, créant de nouvelles perspectives, tandis que miroirs et rotations invitent le visiteur à déplacer son regard. Plus qu’une exposition d’oeuvres, il s’agit d’une expérience où l’on apprend à « voir autrement », en questionnant l’endroit et l’envers, le visible et le caché, le portrait et son absence.
